If you live or work in a bushfire risk area, now is the time to be reviewing and updating your Bushfire Action Plan.
ETSA Utilities and the CFS are working together to ensure that in preparing their Plan, South Australians have taken account of the potential for the loss of electricity supply.
Mains-fed electricity can be interrupted due to a fault, damage to the network caused by fire, or because supply has been turned off to minimise the risk of fire ignition. (Legislation introduced after the Ash Wednesday bushfires allows ETSA Utilities to turn off power to reduce the possibility of a fire starting from the interaction of the environment with the distribution network).
At all times, customers should be prepared and have plans in place to cope with a power outage.
And people living or working in bushfire risk areas who are planning to stay and fight a fire, should consider alternative sources of power for pumping water and operating fire-fighting equipment.
A battery-powered radio may also prove useful as it can be used to monitor updates.
ETSA Utilities will restore electricity to customers, after the dangerous conditions have passed and as soon as it's safe and practicable to do so , but in some areas there may be significant delays.
Where possible, ETSA Utilities will advise customers and issue regular updates via the media to keep customers informed.
