Employee Foundation volunteers

Who we support

The ETSA Utilities Employee Foundation supports the following key causes and programs, which have become the focus of our workplace giving, fundraising and volunteering efforts.

Key causes

Flinders Lodge

Flinders Lodge is a 66 room motel purchased in 2006 to meet the increasing needs of people from the country requiring accommodation.

Flinders Lodge offers additional services to patients such as counselling, transport to and from medical appointments, transport to the shopping centre for supplies and day trips, much of which is coordinated with volunteers.

The Foundation has selected Flinders Lodge as a key cause and is providing funds to refurbish the rooms and increase the quality of life for patients staying at this facility.

Para Woodland

It was formed in 2003, after land was gifted to the Nature Foundation of South Australia and additionally purchased by the State Government. It is a 321 hectare reserve to the north of Adelaide and three kilometres south east of Gawler, near Para Wirra Recreation Park.

The objective is to restore remnant vegetation and wildlife and re-establish original habitats through natural regeneration of the reserve. The Management Committee has selected this as a key cause under a partnership with the Department for Environment and Heritage, as it is an opportunity for Employee Foundation volunteers to contribute their time and give something back to the environment.

Workgroup initiatives

ETSA Utilities has employees based all around South Australia. The Foundation aims to support employees in providing benefits to their local community. Local workgroups can elect to volunteer with a local charity with support from the Employee Foundation. The Foundation supports up to ten initiatives each year.

Management Committee initiatives

The Management Committee has established ongoing relationships with local charities supported by our volunteers. Support is provided to:

Hutt Street Centre

Logo - Hutt Street CentreETSA Utilities staff have been proud supporters of the Hutt Street Centre for many years, pre-dating the formation of the Employee Foundation. The Foundation is excited to continue this partnership.

Every night more than 7,000 people sleep rough on the streets and in the parklands of South Australia. The Hutt Street Centre provides essential support services to those homeless people in Adelaide. Showers, laundry facilities, a daily visiting doctor and nurse, recreation activities, an aged care program and assistance with finding housing are all services provided to the homeless at Hutt Street Centre. Our volunteers serve breakfast at the Centre and we also sponsor the provision of meals for a week. We also provide volunteers at their Touch Wine event which combines Australia’s three big passions – wine, sport and food.

The Employee Foundation was major partner for the 'Walk a Mile in My Boots' initiative for 2009 and was given a pair of hand-painted boots in recognition of being the team who raised the most online funds for this event.

The Mary Potter Foundation

Logo - Mary Potter FoundationThe Mary Potter Foundation was established in 1987 to provide financial support to the Mary Potter Hospice. The Hospice is situated at the Calvary Hospital, Adelaide and provides for the physical, emotional, spiritual and social needs of the terminally ill and their families.

Patients are admitted to the Hospice when intensive nursing support, symptom relief or pain control is needed, or for respite care to give home carers a rest. The Employee Foundation supported the 2008 High tea to raise funds and awareness. It also provided volunteers to assist with the refurbishment of their Family Room.

Uniting Care Wesley

Logo - Uniting CareUniting Care Wesley, formerly the Adelaide Central Mission, has served South Australia for more than 100 years. The organisation is committed to developing fair and compassionate communities through three key strategies: community strengthening, quality service delivery and advocacy. With close to sixty different programs, Uniting Care Wesley works with people from all different walks of life to help break the ‘cycle of disadvantage.’

Every Christmas the Employee Foundation collects toys and gifts to donate to children and delivers Christmas hampers to families in need.
