Training Services

ETSA Utilities has been providing quality trade technical training to our employees and contractors for more than 50 years. These days, our nationally-accredited Training Services team deliver a wide range of training programs for staff and contractors, as well as external businesses seeking our expertise.

Our diverse selection of training programs is designed to help participants gain new skills, improve existing skills, keep up-to-date in the fast-paced electrical industry, or comply with increasingly complex legislation.

ETSA Utilities Training Services is also responsible for providing the training for our apprenticeship program and pre-employment program.

Training programs

Certificate III in ESI - Distribution

The objective of the Certificate III in ESI - Distribution is to provide participants with the knowledge and skills to become a qualified powerline worker. The course covers powerline fundamentals; plant, tools and equipment; powerline principles; powerline construction; underground work; live low voltage; HV switching and transmission.

High Voltage switching

The High Voltage switching series of programs covers the necessary knowledge and skills required for operators to perform a range of High Voltage switching operations on utility assets. There are a range of courses offered under this banner.

Live line methods

The Live line methods series of programs includes live line stick, live line glove and barrier, and live line bare hand training courses. These course are offered at basic, intermediate and advanced levels, as well as assessment for re-accreditation.

Live Low Voltage

The Live Low Voltage training programs are designed to provide participants with the skills needed to perform low voltage switching operations and related tasks on utility assets. There are several courses offered under this banner.

Plant, tools and equipment

Plant, tools and equipment training covers a broad range of mobile plant and mechanical equipment, including cranes, elevating work platforms, forklifts, backhoes, borers, chainsaws, and workzone traffic management.

Substation programs

The Substation series of training programs will provide participants with the skills to safely perform a variety of High Voltage switching tasks in substations. The courses also address topics such as substation construction, commissioning, protection and control, switchgear, and transformers.

Underground programs

The Underground range of training programs includes underground cable and fault locating, working in a confined space, polymeric cables, and High Voltage paper lead cable jointing. All courses are designed to provide participants with the skills required to work on the underground electricity distribution system.
